Vitamin D + K2
Odds are you’re not getting enough vitamin D. In fact, the CDC reports that as many as 23 million Americans have a “severe” deficiency, so nutrition authorities are beginning to recommend higher dosages. But that may present another problem entirely.
One of vitamin D’s functions is to move calcium around in your body. Most of the calcium you take in should go to your bones and teeth, but it can end up in places you don’t want it to as well. A 2016 study shows that there is a strong association between extremely high levels of vitamin D and high levels of calcium. When you take in extreme amounts of vitamin D along with a lot of calcium (as most Americans do), the D can’t direct where all that calcium should go. A review in the American Society of Nephrology indicates that when concentrations get too high, calcium starts getting deposited in your arteries. In other words, a vitamin you’re taking to improve your health could actually end up harming it!†
Now enter vitamin K2. Research shows that supplementing with K2 helps determine where calcium goes in your body, sending it to your bones and teeth where you need it most. In light of this new research, and in an effort to ensure customer safety, we’ve added K2 to our Vitamin D formula.†
You can’t taste the sun, so our Vitamin D3 Spray is naturally flavorless. But we also styled some flavor profiles based on our favorite tropical memories that give us the warmest smiles.
Tropical sunshine delight
The Guava thrives in a warm tropical climate, preferring to grow under the heat of the sun, making this fruit’s refreshing flavor a perfect pairing for the “Sunshine Vitamin.” Our new Vitamin D3 Guava flavor is a reflection of the fruits aromatics with subtle hints of pineapple, papaya, banana, and lemon leaving you with a delightful taste and a smile on your face.
The forbidden fruit must be tasted
We love the fresh-squeezed taste of Grapefruit so much that we wanted to enjoy it wherever we go. So, we made our new Vitamin D3 Spray with the gregarious, bold flavor of Grapefruit. Best of all, our Vitamin D Spray is small enough to fit in your purse or briefcase; giving you the option to travel with the taste of this "forbidden fruit" with you and get your sunshine – wherever and whenever you need it.
75% of People May be Vitamin D Deficient†
No Sun, No Problem
Vitamin D is one of those rare supplements that almost everyone can benefit from.† As many as 75% of teens and adults in the US may be deficient. The reason? The majority of people spend the working week inside a building hiding from the sun.
Unfortunately, the best way to get Vitamin D is to get it directly from the daystar. So if you’re cooped up all day, you’ll never get enough vitamin D without supplementing. Unless of course, you have a chance to go sunbathing on your lunch break. The best time to get vitamin D is around solar noon. You’ll need to expose as much of your skin as possible (while abiding by local laws).
The Vitamin D Council recommends staying in the sun for half the time it takes your skin to turn pink or red. For people with light skin, this won’t take long at all – less than 15 minutes. But for people with darker skin, (meaning trying to get vitamin D from the sun during a lunch break is all but impossible).
While it’d be nice for it to be possible to simply go out in the sun whatever time of year it was anywhere in the world, it’s not that easy. Put simply, the further you are from the equator, the harder it is to harness vitamin D.
Plant Based Vitamin Spray in MCT Oil
Onnit Vitamin D3 Spray is a plant-based vitamin D3 supplement that provides 1,000 IU of vitamin D per serving from lichens. Our vitamin D3 is carefully extracted using a system that accounts for heat, light, and moisture to ensure our vitamin D3 is stable, pure, and potent.
Plus, since our vitamin D3 is dispensed as a spray, it enters your system much quicker than a tablet, capsule or gelcap. What makes our spray even better, is that it is carried in a base of clean, fractionated MCT oil.
Onnit Vitamin D Spray is small enough to fit in your purse or briefcase. So take it with you and get your sunshine – wherever and whenever you need it.
You’ve essentially got 4 options when it comes to supplementing with vitamin D – lanolin, mushrooms, fish oil, and lichens. Only lanolin-, fish oil-, and lichen-based supplements can provide you with D3.
Given the lack of vitamin D in food sources and the expense of procuring salmon for every meal, it’s best to supplement with vitamin D if you can’t get adequate sun exposure.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form of vitamin D your body produces when it’s exposed to UV rays, so it’s easily absorbed. Vitamin D supplements that use mushrooms only contain D2 (ergocalciferol), a less bioavailable form of vitamin D.
