GutRight® is formulated to help promote a healthy microbiome in the gut
We have two different lots of genetic material (genome) working in our bodies, one in our cells inherited from our parents and the other in the cells of the acquired microbes we carry around inside us; our microbiome. Our inherited genome from our parents takes many generations to change and hardly changes if at all during our lifetime, the microbiome genome is extremely dynamic and can be constantly changing, even from night and day.
Approximately 1,000 types of microbiota are present in the adult intestinal tract. There are 10 times as many microbiome bugs inside us than our own cells. These naturally occurring gut bugs help us digest, create and process nutrients. They interact with our immune system and coats our first lines of defense such as our skin and internal mucosal membranes.
What makes our gut healthy?
Having the right number of bugs and the right combination of species of bugs for your body is what we are striving for. Not too many and not too few. A nice healthy balance.
The majority of these bugs live in and on us because they are in our environment and food. Our unique colonies come from our exposure to different strains, hygiene, antibiotics, and our food choices. It is the food we eat that has the biggest impact on what strains thrive and what dies off. With our constant and consistent availability of foods and a tendency to eat a balanced diet but not a varied diet with the seasons can create overgrowths of certain bugs and overall population and we can lose our natural, healthy balance.
It is not always a deficiency of microbes that needs to be supplemented with probiotics and prebiotic bug food but a problem occurs when we get an overgrowth of the wrong types of bugs or even an overgrowth of what may be considered healthy bugs that disrupt the balance. We can have too much of a good thing.
Our eating has changed & our food has changed
Our food has changed due to farming techniques, harvesting, storage and food preparation techniques along with our food choices and purchases.
Per gram of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains, we now consume:
- More sugar
- Less fiber
- Less Modbiotic ™ compounds; antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal compounds from fiber, pulp, skins, peels, and seeds
- Pesticides that may alter our microbes in our gut
- Fewer micronutrients
We eat a “balanced” diet but not a varied diet
We eat the same food all year round and we don’t eat with seasons. In nature, we would cycle between different fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and grains through the seasons. Eating what is fresh and available for the season and then having months off while we wait for that season return. We have been taught to have a balanced diet by balancing our food groups in each meal or day but we tend to select the same foods, our favorite foods to consume most days, all year round.
We typically do not have regular intermittent fasting. In nature we go through phases of feast and famine, our metabolism learns to adapt to changing ratios of protein, carbohydrates, and fats and eating at different times of the day.
Without this variation and change, there is a constant food supply for certain microorganisms and deficiencies of favorite foods for other microbes and that will fuel an overgrowth of some and deficiencies of others. We need variety.
Fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, and seeds contain modbiotic compounds such as polyphenols, flavonoids, polysaccharides, glucans and lots of other astringent, bitter, colorful and fragrant compounds. Usually, the modbiotics are in the fiber that is found in the skins, peels, seeds, and pulp.
